Time again for our monthly TB Gleaves Reunion update.  
 
This past month has been an exciting one as you cousins have kept me busy with the new emails of relatives interested in the reunion.  It is a priviledge to get to organize this get-together as I am able to meet many of you via emails and phone calls ahead of the reunion.  We really have a lot of neat relatives out there.  With this month's letter, I am sending a tenitive schedule that is subject to change but should for the most part be accurate.
 
Some have asked how the registration money will be used.  The conference room is $200 per day, then additional equipment such as overhead projectors and PA systems are extra.  We will be having door prizes and some decorations.  If we have enough people attend, we can even have beverages (coffee, tea, water) in the conference room.  The registration money does not include any of your meal, they will be at your own expense.  We are working to get a lunch catered (maybe hamburger) on Saturday at the Dempsey School, which we will collect for at registration.
 
Simon's Catch which is scheduled for dinner on Friday night will be a fun time to continue to get to know these long lost relatives.  Oklahoma is known for their catfish all-you-can-eat and Simon's keeps it coming for only $9.95.  Lee & I ate there two weeks ago and it was very good.  Personally catfish is not my thing but the steak I had was outstanding.  Check them out at http://local.yahoo.com/info-18501407-simon-s-catch-elk-city  This is an optional dining choice for the evening.
 
I am starting a feud between the families of TB Gleaves to see which family will have the most at the reunion.  That would be John, Jacob, Ella, Gracie, David, William J., Arthur Nealy, & Ananias (Andy).  So far I have had more email contact with David's family but more registrations from Arthur's family.  Let's start the friendly feud.  
 
Oh yes, fact or fiction:  TB Gleaves actually hung a man!  Our speaker, Robert Gleaves will let us know if this is true or not.  Don't miss it.

First off, please do not put my email on any of your lists to forward anything to except for Gleaves Reunion information.  There is a lot of good information floating around out there but I do not have time to dig through it all.  Thank you.
 
Now for the updates.  Since our last newletter, we have had a few hotel and RV park reservation made but no reunion registrations sent in.  Last week I went by the Old Town Museum and arrange for a price discount for our group to tour on Friday afternoon, October 15.  Also on Saturday, October 16, we have the old Dempsey Historical one room school circa 1905 reserved for a lunch.  Just before going to Dempsey, we will be touring the Tucker farm which is the original TB Gleaves Homestead.  Mrs. Tucker & her late husband have built a "log cabin" behind their home which houses antiques that their families have collected through the year of living on this beautiful land.
 
I am still in need of email addresses for other family members.  Please look through the list that comes when I send these letters out and see if I have included all your families.
 
Remember when making your plans that we will start checking everyone in at 8:00 Friday morning, October 15 and have activities through Saturday evening until about 8:00 or 9:00 pm.  It looks to be a very full, informative weekend.
 
Fact or Fiction?  Were there really some Gleaves children who were intimate friends with the President of the United States's children?  Did they really play hide-and-seek in the Whitehouse attic?  Robert will be exposing the truth for us.  Don't miss out or it will be a constant nagging in your mind not knowing if this is true or not.  Get your registration in soon!

Official Announcement

This will not be a reunion as most of us are used to, just sitting around visiting.  There will be session for learning about the TB Gleaves Family, session for learning about the early Gleaves arrival in America in the early 1700’s, trip to a museum that highlights life in Oklahoma in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, and trip to the gravesite of TB & Nancy Gleaves and their 1906 homestead.  It will be an opportunity to meet many cousins and maybe some who are more closely related than you think.

Our main speaker is Robert Gleaves, coming all the way from Monroe, North Carolina.  He has attended many of the National Gleaves Association Meetings where he has gained an enormous amount of history on the Gleaves and will share that knowledge with us.

Was there really a famous Admiral Gleaves who even had a ship named after him?  Fact or Fiction?  Robert will expose the truth, don’t miss it.

We are in need of pictures of the Gleaves that pre-date 1950.  I would appreciate any that you could email or send a COPY by postal service.  Also be thinking of a special story about a Gleaves ancestor that you can share with the group.

The Clarion, formerly Holiday Inn, is a very nice hotel with an atrium area in the middle.  We have rented meeting rooms there to make it convenient for those choosing to stay at this location.  If you prefer other lodging, there is a Ramada Inn and Comfort Inn directly across the road from the Clarion.  Also below will be information for an RV park just on the other side of I-40 from the hotel.  As you make reservations, please email me so that as the rooms are taken, I can call to hold a few more, if needed.

You may even want to come a few days earlier as there are other museums in the area to see, it’s really a nice place to visit.  Registration will begin at 8:00 am Friday and we will conclude Saturday evening.
