Mary and Andrew Porter graves in Cripple Creek, Wythe County, Virginia | Mary Porter, died 1850; 2nd wife of Andrew Porter | Mary Porter, died 1850; 2nd wife of Andrew Porter | Mary Porter, died 1832; 1st wife of Andrew Porter | In memory of Andrew Porter who departed this life March 9th, 1853 Ages 79 years, 11 months and 7 days |
Probably slave grave | Here are two IOU's that were in Andrew Porter's possession. I have copies of about 20 different IOU's. All but these have his name (the corner) tore off. I assume that when he paid his debt, they would tear off his name? This William Cornett is his father in law. Our family made mention of an old letter from The Cornetts in virginia to Andrew Porter in KY talking about a debt. Unfortunately, the letter has been destroyed. | This is the oldest receipt that we have that originally belonged to our Andrew J. Porter. It, along with several other iou's and tax receipts were passed down to his son, a grandson, and a great granddaughter. So this paper belonged to our Andrew J. Porter. However, if it is dated 1832 (hard to read), our Andrew J. Porter would have only been 9 or 10 years old (born 1822-23 Wythe county.) So who is this Mr. A. Porter? Our Andrew J. Porter, his father, uncle or grandfather? It looks to me to be some type of store receipt? Bot of Robert M. Jones? July 21, 1832 oe 1836? | Back of receipt | Porter Descendants page 1 |
